Le Chien qui aimait les trains

Inspiration from the Czech New Wave and indirectly also the French New Wave is clearly evident in Paskaljevič's film. The Balkans are only present in the visuals, which depict run-down neighborhoods full of shabby buildings, but otherwise, the film could take place anywhere in Central Europe. This uncomfortable psychological drama evokes a sense of claustrophobia, partly due to the desolate industrial landscape, with the camera often indulging in panoramic shots of endless railway yards filled with freight trains, and partly due to the hopeless situation of both main characters. The film builds up to a tragic ending. My mother warned me thoroughly never to trust women and end up like my father, so luckily I managed to avoid the same fate... Overall impression: 80%.
