The documentary describes the changes of the Burjat Tibetan Buddhism since its arrival from Tibet, or by extension, from Mongolia, through the battle with the local shamanism and the Stalinist repression up to the present day. The documentary uses testimonies of Buryat shamans and lamas and scholars from the University of Irkutsk and Ulan Ude. It was shot in restored monasteries of Buryatia and a big festival in the monastery Aginskoe. All of this takes place in the background scenery of Lake Baikal and local holy mountains. Overhead line of the document is the desire of every nation for its own identity, which today's Burjats, disappointed by decades of coexistence with atheistic communist dictatorship are looking for in their old religious traditions.
