In the prologue to this morally tense drama from the present day, interlaid with black-and-white retrospectives, a small-town entrepreneur has to deal with a disturbance committed by his adolescent son. The next day he collapses and ends up in hospital. His devoted wife fulfils his wish and brings his brother, a tough guy with a criminal past, to their house. The relationships between straightforward Emil, his brother's wife and her two children take interesting turns. It comes out that the sick businessman desperately needs his brother because of a planned transplantation. An incident from the past, which is causing the unclear guilt and suppressed cowardice, starts to resurface.
