My Grandfather Planted a Beet

A classic Czech fairy tale - is it actually Czech? - and one of Jiří Trnka's first films. According to records, it was his first directorial effort. In animation, it might be surprising that Trnka also played with shadows, but what's especially remarkable is that it's not just a mere retelling; it has Trnka's own artistic elements that bring the story to life and give it something extra, something this is at times even surreal.
