anglais An excellent remake of a great silent film that proved fateful for Frič. He said he never understood the fundamental appeal of this particular story, but he also didn't fight against the audience's desires. It is in both versions of Father Vojtech that we can see the good path that Czech cinema had taken from the peak of the silent era to the new routine of sound film. The atmosphere of a serious melodrama remained the same as in the original, with the addition of a more vivid portrayal of the transience of village happiness. ()
