For 36 days, from April to May 1954, a Senate committee investigated Senator Joseph McCarthy’s accusations against the US Army and their counter accusations. Broadcast live on US television to 20 million viewers, the hearings showed McCarthy to be a witch hunter. From the 188 hours of taped material, Emile de Antionio and Daniel Talbot compiled a 90-minute drama, whose artificial quality is never concealed. Despite the seemingly natural flow of dialogue, McCarthy’s tie or suit sometimes changes from one shot to the next. (DOK.fest München)
