Agnes, the daughter of the Hindu God, Indra, is sent to earth to observe humanity and discern if the grievances of man are well-founded. In her search for truth, she marries a lawyer, has a child, but quickly tires of the tedium of daily existence. Disillusioned by her marriage, she sets off in pursuit of her higher duty, travelling amidst the destinies of many different people until her meeting with a poet brings her sacred odyssey to an end. The narrative holds many parallels with the life of Christ, except that here it is the daughter of God who comes to earth. (Norsk Filminstitutt)
