This spectacular epic is based on the final part of Polish cult historic trilogy by Henryk Sienkiewicz. It takes place in the second half of the 17th century and deals with the war against the Turks and Tartars. The hero, Michał Wołodyjowski, called "Poland's best sabre", is a knight willing to put his life on stake to defend his country. (Summer Film School)

anglais A historical costume romanticizing epic film, with which Polish cinema, and especially Hoffman, are very experienced. In comparison with French productions, it is taken much more seriously, although the dialogues have lower quality and the love story lags. On the other hand, the heroic battle scenes with extras are magnificent; however, in the details, everything comes out much worse, similar to Ozerov's war epics, where crowd scenes with military technology look impressive, but when the camera focuses on a specific soldier, the result is pathetic. Overall impression: 50%. ()
