I have to say I was considering giving the film three stars. Mostly because I didn’t really know the actress Hildegard Knef until this movie, so I didn’t know what to expect. However, for a biopic made with precision it definitely deserves the extra star. I really liked Heike Makatsch’s take on her character. Add in the great atmosphere of the World War, then the post-war period and finally Hollywood. It would be foolish to rate it lower. This biopic is a properly made movie with all the good, but also bad, that this genre entails. (06/06/2014)

Up to this point, I had no idea about the existence, let alone the acting and singing fame of Hildegard Knef, and I must admit that even my encounter with this autobiographical film did not convince me that it would be any sort of a loss or mistake. Not even the big eyes of the otherwise sympathetic Heike Makatsch worked on me, no matter how hard she tried. I remained indifferent to her character until the end, and I consider the film to be a mere filler of broadcasting time. Overall impression: 40%. (16/06/2014)
