Eric ne vit que pour le hockey. A trente ans, après une carrière de professionnel, il est devenu présentateur sportif à la télévision canadienne. Cependant, il reste particulièrement discret sur sa vie privée et son homosexualité. Quand son compagnon, Sam, lui annonce qu'ils vont devenir les gardiens temporaires d'un petit garçon, le monde confortable d'Eric s'écroule. Scot, le petit orphelin de 11 ans, qui débarque dans leurs vies est l'exact opposé d'Eric. Perturbé par l'exubérance du garçon, Eric va tenter de l'éloigner de toutes les choses frivoles et roses qui le fascinent pour le convertir au hockey. Mais peu à peu, c'est Eric qui va devoir reconsidérer les compromis qu'il a été obligé de faire afin d'être accepté socialement. (Optimale)

Breakfast with Scot is based on an old familiar tale that runs almost exactly to the textbook examples of the making of American (Canadian in this case) romantic comedies: there's someone who doesn't like kids but eventually finds out they can't be without them, plus other clichés and all-dialogue that form the basis of the mass majority of film production today. So why the 4*? Because it was an enjoyable outing with a likable lead couple and a certain hybrid of Dorothy and Peter Pan (I really spent much of the film groping over the gender of Scot). Plus it had a funny side that complemented the family movie line.
