En 1862, à Bangkok, le roi de Siam engage une veuve Anglaise, Anna Owens, comme gouvernante auprès de ses nombreux enfants. Leurs relations sont d'abord très conflictuelles, mais la jeune femme parvient peu à peu à gagner la confiance du monarque, qui écoute ses conseils en matière de modernisation du royaume. Opposites attract, so a teacher and the King of Siam can find their way to each other. She's quite a determined woman who won't stand for anything, but she's also kind and good-hearted. He's a sexist asshole, but he's trying to run his country as best he can while being heavily influenced by tradition. It's not a classic romance, but it's a nice, human story that will probably be better known in The King and I version.
