Trophy husband Jack Wade kidnaps his comatose wife, an ex-Hollywood studio executive, in an attempt to kill her so that he can collect her life insurance after she screwed him out of access to her finances. When she comes back from the dead to haunt him, Jack can't distinguish reality from delirium. His secrets come to the foreground and he ends up destroying himself, both figuratively and literally. Only for the most ardent fans of low-budget horror. The main problem for me was the entire first half, where not much happens and you begin to get bored to death. The second half is already quite fun and very watchable. The direction and the performances are awful, of course, and the screenwriter didn’t excel either. What’s sad is that, even though my opinion is rather negative, this is still one of the best horror films of the first half of 2008. I’m giving it 40%, the comparison with another film about a cabin in the woods doesn’t do Dead and Gone any favours, either.
