A young woman dressed in a mourning outfit wanders around the appartment. Her phone conversation, her recalling of her conversations with her husband and the monologue of her neighbour who came to see her, reveal that the young woman, Jana Mašínová, has just become a widow. The young architect Karel Mašín died in a motorcycle crash. Jana recalls her talks with her husband, full of love and plans for the future. A neighbour brings Jana apples and milk. She offers, hypocritically, to move to her appartment with her little son. Thus, she could leave her appartment to the neighbour's daughter. But the young widow is deaf to her monologue and the disappointed neighbour leaves. Jana turns the gas oven on, the gas hisses out loud. (NFA)
