The somewhat neglected Be Prepared! by Svatopluk Innemann was based on a screenplay by theatre personality and scoutmaster František V. Kučera, who also appeared in one of the roles. The picture, made by Poja Film, shows scouts at a summer camp in the vicinity of Orlík castle engaged in various exercises in proficiency, including lifesaving skills. The shoot involved the participation of boys from one of the Prague scout troops and staff from the Schwarzenberg estate. The movie provides rare documentation not only of the scout movement of the time but also of Prague as it was in 1923 and St John’s Rapids, now flooded by the Štěchovice Reservoir. The new tinted and toned copy was reconstructed by the National Film Archive in 2017-2018. (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival)

anglais I was prepared for an instructional film that would be interesting only from a historical point of view. Yet Be Prepared! is a fun heroic idyll, slightly adventurous with a bit of positive propaganda, but with humor and a good story about how the heroes saved the lady of the castle. The landscape of that time is especially striking when sailing through the streams and in the end, one is glad to be back in Prague. After all, building those scouting camps can be challenging. ()

anglais A great spectacle that takes place almost a hundred years ago, when everything was somehow nicer and better. Or so it seems. It's actually a documentary with a story. Beautiful shots of Prague and nature, a suitably boyish story of an almost Foglar type, only without real heroes, the promotion of a noble scout idea, back then being ten years young and so beautiful. And the music of Wabi Experience works great with that. ()
