María, a young woman from a rich family, has left everything for Alberto, a poor failed painter who works as an illustrator. One night, María expresses her frustration and discontent with their marriage and squalid neighborhood. Later, she is raped by a stranger at a party. When Alberto returns to an empty house, he goes out in search of María. She vacillates between committing suicide and going back to him. The two wander the streets until they meet.
