During the last weeks of the World War II, soldiers of the beaten Hungarian regiments desert, one after the other. Bodra, a lance-sergeant fleeing with his wounded comrade, meets a small troop recruited from 14-15-year-old boys. Their leader, Vörös, takes them for deserters until he realises that they are all surrounded. German soldiers shoot at the fugitives in the forest and Hungarians fire from the village under the hilltop called "Kneeler Peak". The wounded man, whom they left with the local charcoal-burner, is slaughtered by the arrow-cross. Bodra and his friends take revenge on the greedy charcoal-burner. Soviet troops end the massacre.
