Shot, among other places, in Berlin, Porto, and Görlitz on the Polish border, the film's melancholy atmosphere - emphasized by the fado music streaming in the background - acts as a curtain for the blackest darkness to emerge from the story. The film is about having doubts, about the idea that it is only possible to be with someone else when they have doubts as well. Having lost his job, Anton has given up, but he does not want to share his demise with Leni, who is still full of life and in love with him. After a furious quarrel, they spend one long night apart, a night that is filled with perilous encounters and risky decisions. They do not have to cross any lines: the reality they live in appears to be tainted, and in the face of that reality, they are as defenseless as children. Leni meets a prostitute named Nina, who introduces her to the world of crime. Anton hops from bar to bar until he meets a bellfounder who asks him for a difficult favor. Passing through successive rings of hell on their own, Anton and Leni fight for the survival of their future love. (New Horizons International Film Festival)
