En 1924, à Skillet, à l'ouest de l'Irlande, Harry, un veuf doté d'une philosophie personnelle, vit avec son fils Gus dans une maison qui tombe en ruine. Ce dernier ne trouve jamais grâce aux yeux d'Harry, victime de la mauvaise humeur de son père et seul auditoire de ses monologues et projets les plus insensés. Persuadé que l'importance d'un homme se mesure d'après l'importance de ses ennemis, Harry se cherche un rival. The story itself is not that compelling or even exceptional, but what elevates the film to a level between three and four stars is the performance of Colm Meaney, who perfectly embodies his character as a patriarchal stubborn farmer with his appearance and acting. He effortlessly outshines the talented Cillian Murphy. Nature also plays an important role in the film - the camera shots exude the raw Irish weather and the atmosphere of the Irish countryside in the 1920s. The image of the marketplace with a large waterfall cascading in the background will stay in my memory for a long time. Overall impression: 65%.
