In an outbreak of a rightful anger, Keresztessy Péter kills Ágota, his deceased wife's cousin, who, in an attempt to become her successor, speaks ill of her thus trying to malign her character. Péter is prepared for capital punishment but is sentenced for life. 15 years later he is pardoned. He can now return to society. His ambitions are great. He starts working in the Kőrössy's textile factory with enthusiasm. His love of work and of Körössy Margit seem to get him back to his normal life, when his past sin becomes known. He escapes to Africa, where he takes a job. He works on the construction site of a railway line. He comes down with malaria and is taken to hospital, where he re-cognizes his daughter, one of the nurses, who got lost on the day of the murder. The horrific secret of his past is an obstacle to a parental embrace. (texte officiel du distributeur)
