Kibédy Sándor, a painter, and Berényi Mária, a girl being educated in a convent and his model for a painting entitled Mária, are in love with each other. Due to a misunderstanding, their romance ends. Mária is off to her family's country estate, Kibédy is sets out on a journey abroad. Mária, although still in love with Kibédy, marries Ladányi Mihály, a landowner in her neighbourhood. A few years later Kibédy, now a famous singer, returns home. They meet, which is quite a shock for both Mária and her marriage. Her husband wants a divorce, she retires into a convent, trying to regain her spiritual peace as sister Mária. It is at her son's bedside that she and her husband find their happiness anew, this time forever. (texte officiel du distributeur)
