Yeo-Jin n'a pas encore vingt ans ; elle vit avec son père veuf. Sa meilleure amie, Jae-Young, est prostituée. Yeo-Jin lui sert pour ainsi dire de manager - elle fait le tri des clients et veille à ce qu'il paient leur dû. Un jour, Jae-Young s'amourache de l'un d'eux et lui donne rendez-vous pour un dîner à trois. Yeo-Jin se fâche decet excès d'intimité et Jae-Young annule le rendez-vous. Peu de temps après, Yeo-Jin commet une faute aux conséquences funestes. Elle fait comme d'habitude le guet lorsque Jae-Young disparaît dans le motel avec un homme. Cette fois-ci, Yeo-Jin n'a toutefois pas remarqué les policiers qui traquent les prostituées mineures... (Le Pacte)

The actual content of the film is not pretty and so neither are my feelings. I just wanted drama, so I got it. Pretty depressing, but it captured the seriousness of the matter perfectly. It's not a movie I'll watch again, but I'm glad I saw it. 3.5 stars.

A pretty pleasant surprise. What strikes you at first is the naivety with which the director develops his story, in an emotional level of Asian mentality that I will never fully understand. From the episode "Sonata" onwards, however, Kim Ki-Duk comes up with a poetic narrative that culminates in the best possible ending. After The Isle I wasn’t expecting something this interesting.

I found the theme beautiful in its own way, but given the poetry of the poster I would have expected a slightly different type of film. Nevertheless, it was still an interesting experience and next time I will have a clearer idea of South Korean perception.
