Proof

A superbly acted intimate drama about life values and mathematics. The only major flaw is the all too obvious "theatricality" of the source material. Otherwise, there is not much to criticise and it would be more appropriate to praise. A quality film that will engage even those untouched by mathematics. (21/05/2007)

I was first introduced to Auburn's "Proof" at the Prague City theater. The film is of course a more substantial perennial that we can return to at any time. It's charming to watch the dramatic construction of the text as handled by Madden and Paltrow, who have already proven their compatibility with each other in Shakespeare in Love. The subject matter is self-supporting, and the dialogues have good ideas and pace. Of the theatrical texts that have been adapted by Hollywood, Proof is one of the better ones. It is definitely worthy of your attention. (29/10/2016)

Le suivant dans ma liste des films « obligés » sur le thème de la schizophrénie. Mais comme l’univers des maths n’est pas mon dada, je suis resté assez hermétique à l’essence du film et à ce qui s’y passait. On peut remarquer que c’est adapté d’une pièce de théâtre, parce que l’ensemble est basé avant tout sur les dialogues, ceux-ci étant magistraux. Gwyneth Paltrow et Anthony Hopkins ont tous deux des rôles remarquables qu’ils interprètent avec brio. La matière est inspirante, mais malheureusement, en ce qui concerne les matrices, les démonstrations et les dérivées, on est au-delà de mes capacités de compréhension et de perception. (20/09/2009)

This movie didn't really captivate me. The performances are good, but the whole plot is nothing special. Yes, there are moments that are good, but overall it didn't sit well with me. Jake definitely wasn't used as he deserved, and the whole thing relies on Gwyneth, who didn't really impress me that much. Most of all, the script didn't sit well with me. (16/12/2014)
