L'Écume de la guerre (2023)

anglais I'll admit that the story's initial development left me somewhat disappointed. I had envisioned something quite different. However, as the narrative progressed, I became captivated by the individual stories of people often overlooked in the grand narratives of war. These were not soldiers or naval officers, but ordinary civilians risking their lives on every voyage to thwart the Nazi regime. Their heroism, seldom rewarded with medals, is a testament to their unsung bravery. I appreciate how the series sheds light on these forgotten heroes, especially those who met tragic ends (especially on tankers). The acting performances were commendable, with special praise for Henrikke Lund Olsen, whose portrayal of Magdeli was excellent. While I'm not exactly a fan of child actors, her performance stood out to me. And while I have a fondness for the RAF, I couldn't help but notice their strong bias against education. / Lesson learned: Even survival can be a tragedy. ()

Episode 1 (2023) (E01)

anglais The first episode of this three-part miniseries introduced the characters, sketched the future plot, and placed us firmly in the historical period. Now, the question remains: will the creators deliver a story that truly captivates? With a topic like the Atlantic convoys — an area that naturally piques my interest — I'm cautiously optimistic. / Lesson learned: There are moments in life when one would appreciate a glimpse into the future. Episode 2 (2023) (E02)

anglais Well, disappointment finally caught up with me. I was eagerly anticipating the convoy battles, but to my dismay, they were mostly relegated to the sidelines, happening just out of sight. Only a few fleeting scenes made it onto the screen. However, the creators had a different agenda in mind, one that took me by surprise — they crafted a poignant drama about underappreciated individuals. / Lesson learned: With each death on the rescue raft, you lose a friend but gain living space. Episode 3 (2023) (E03)

anglais The third and final episode of this compact miniseries wraps up the narrative in a satisfying manner. From the outset, it was clear that this wouldn't be a lighthearted affair, and I appreciate that. I've grown weary of the formulaic happy endings with their songs and dances. However, I can also imagine that if you're contemplating suicide, a series like this one could help you take that final step. / Lesson learned: You can't wait forever. ()
