Fábri's monumental film, with a touch of Baroque style, travels back to the nineteen thirties. Its hero is Parcen Nagy Lőrinc, a descendant of a bourgeois family. Lőrinc - the writer's alter ego - breaks with the customs and prejudices of his class. His father, Károly kills himself because of his ruined marriage and collapsed company. Lőrinc is full of disgust when he leaves his decadent mother of a weak character, but he cannot strike the right tone with his love and colleagues, either. All his moves are followed by distrust. One of them beats him nearly to death, but he does not want to tell the police who it was. (texte officiel du distributeur)
