Originally a blacksmith, but most of all a self-taught designer and architect Jean Prouvé significantly contributed to the outlook of French architecture of the 20th century and to the technological development of mass furniture production. His house is a visionary example of modular architecture. Constructed in 1954 the building stands on steep land in Nancy, where the author grew up. The house is an exemplar of clever construction principles – simple form, light materials and easy assembly, which embodies Prouvé’s contribution connecting practical and economic solutions with high-quality design.
