Hartley, cœurs à vif

Heartbreak High would certainly get lost in the plethora of high school series of recent years if it weren't for some really quirky characters and a plot with some crime elements, the slow unraveling of which I really enjoyed. Since the series is set in a high school full of horny teenagers, it has more than one scene in which you'd like to smack this or that character over the head for stupid behavior, but it does deal with some interesting and poignant themes that mostly overshadow the sometimes theatrically-annoying mannerisms. Even though the Amerie-Harper relationship was at the imaginary center of the plot, I was more drawn to and intrigued by the more plastic characters of Quinni and Ca$h (whose grandmother provided the most humane scenes in the entire series). A weaker four stars! (28/08/2023)
