Michael Kitchen (Out of Africa) stars as the laconic Christopher Foyle, detective chief superintendent in the English town of Hastings. As World War II ravages the social fabric of this once quiet coastal community, Foyle investigates crimes the conflict has fostered on the home front. The 19 mysteries in this collection follow the course of the war from 1940 to 1945. (texte officiel du distributeur)

anglais From the perspective of content and processing, this television series does not represent anything exceptional. However, the combination of classic detective story with a wartime atmosphere works and creates a solid retro feel supported by reliable performances from the actors involved, among whom the young talented Honeysuckle Weeks stands out as his driver and assistant alongside Michael Kitchen in the lead role. Due to the small number of episodes, both series have a rare balanced level - the screenwriter did not have to forcibly squeeze ideas out of himself. Overall impression: 60% for a standard British entertainment. The entire series exudes a typical old-fashioned atmosphere of the British monarchy and the lives of the middle class of its era. ()
