In Maigret's Dead Man, a series of vicious, murderous attacks on three wealthy farms in Picardy hit the national headlines and the elite Brigade Criminelle at the Quay Des Orfevres is called upon to lend its expertise in tracking down the brutal gang responsible for the slaughter. However, Maigret is resolute in investigating the murder of an obscure anonymous Parisian. An investigation that ultimately solves both crimes. (Independent Television)

anglais The second installment of Maigret is probably the same as the first installment quality-wise. It doesn’t offer anything original but rather attempts an honest adaptation of one of the cases and the only captivating thing is the character of Maigret played by Rowan Atkinson. But it is a shame that they probably adjusted the dubbing a lot because according to the reviews Iʼve read here, the English made a bit of fun of Czechs and Slovaks. And I waited for the whole movie and nothing came, with all references apparently being replaced by those to Russians. ()

anglais I couldn't resist and I watched the latest version of the Maigret cases mainly out of curiosity of how Rowan Atkinson would look in the serious role of the famous French detective. It wasn't so much that I doubted Atkinson's acting abilities, but rather I was interested in how he would fit into this role. A significant part of film fans still see Jean Gabin as the only legitimate representative, whereas I personally identified Maigret with Bruno Cremer, who dedicated 15 years of his life to this character. Atkinson doesn't quite fit this role in terms of appearance, although the French TV series seemed somewhat lacking in production. Overall, it deserves an honest three stars and a 65% overall impression. ()
