The Trump administration’s Migrant Protection Protocols—or the “Remain in Mexico” policy—has forced vulnerable asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico as their cases are processed, trapping them in dangerous conditions without adequate medical services. Weeks before the COVID-19 outbreak, VICE’s Paola Ramos traveled to the largest refugee camp on the US-Mexico border in Matamoros, Mexico, to embed on the frontline of this growing humanitarian crisis.
