Structured like a jazz composition, an emotionally powerful journey that uses the diverse tapestry of Harlem as the backdrop for exploring multiculturalism through the lives of several strangers who are forever changed after a shooting at a historic jazz bar in Harlem. Paris Is in Harlem is a symphonic story of several New Yorkers whose volatile lives intersect over the course of one historic day: An African American bar owner who helps a teenage drum prodigy get off the streets while inadvertently pushing a homeless African man to the edge of violence; an Indian American adjunct professor who stands to lose his job for using the "N" word while citing dialogue from a Spike Lee film in a class lecture; a white babysitter caught in the crossfire of a divorcing couple and deemed unworthy of looking after their black kids; a security officer who carelessly loses his gun caught in his fear of being perceived as sexist and racist; an esteemed Women’s Studies professor accused of sexual harassment by her younger, bisexual teaching assistant and saved from taking her own life by a gregarious, Jazz obsessed Uber driver... They are all instrumental solos in the song which is America today - a song of separation, division and confusion. A world failed by words, a world that only music can transport to a place where ‘everything’s gonna be alright.’ (Cinequest Festival)
