Daughter of Deceit is a retelling of The Bitter Mr. Quintin, a 1935 film produced by Buñuel in Spain. The remake is a complex character study of a man who learns of his wife's adultery and believes that his daughter has been fathered by another man. His discovery embitters him and he spends many years as the sad and distrustful owner of a gambling casino. Two decades later, he discovers that the child he has abandoned was really his and he launches a grand search for her. This culminates in a ironic reunion laced with equal parts humor and skepticism. Daughter Of Deceit is a film that starts as a melodrama and ends up like a screwball comedy. What might appear to be a routine woman’s story is transformed by Buñuel's knack for comedy into an engrossing and entertaining movie. (Video Dimensions)
