The Summer Children

In the decades after World War II, tens of thousands of German children were sent to Norway to spend their summers with families they did not know, as part of an exchange program designed to foster reconciliation in war-torn Europe. In this personal and moving documentary, Linn Helene Løken uses her mother’s experience as one of these children to tell the story of this forgotten effort to aid German children living in poverty and strengthen international relations between countries that had recently been bitter enemies.
