Budapest, 8th. district, Szigony street. It is a closed world with its own rules and with unusual heroes. The margin. The centre of this universe is the pub called Gólya. This is a place where people gather to drink, fight, and then they go home. Someone is stuck a knife in the stomach, someone else in the back. Gizi, the woman who is attractive even though she is limping, has Kapa live with her, and her dismissed tenant attacs the apartment. Battles on all fronts and in all rented apartments. The janitor takes his own wife as hostage, then a doctor. In the home of the Halász family, a gesture is found offensive and the oil-stove is set on fire. Too much gas is let into the mutually bred pig, wherefore the animal explodes. Gizi and her lover quarrel, then make peace, but new fires flame up around them. Life goes on as usual.
