Nina Simone is a living legend.
Inspired by the sounds and soul of jazz at an early age, she gave up her dream of becoming the first black concert pianist. A series of successful recordings brought fame and millions, which were just as quickly lost through a stream of thoughtless and greedy lovers and producers. Close to both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, she became one of the leading voices of the Black movement, and under pressure from the CIA, moved to Europe and a new beginning. This film recounts her tumultuous life, illustrated with extracts from a number of shows that confirm her reputation as a major international star.
