Daniel, a successful writer, is in North Africa. He is going to start on a new novel, studies the people around him and uses them as models for the characters in his novels. His interest is soon aroused by a beautiful and mysterious young Italian woman and her husband. He spies on them. Sometimes he sees them in the company of one of the local guides. Is he the woman's lover? Daniel's jealousy is kindled - on behalf of the Italian husband. Daniel begins his novel. In his imagination he gives the Italian couple the leading roles in his drama. One day he finds the Italian woman lying lifeless in his hotel apartment. Has she been the victim of a crime or is it Daniel himself who is the subject of a conspiracy?
