An unspecified country is in the grips of civil war. A young woman named Wanda, a spy loyal to the government, falls in love with John, a revolutionist. Max, who is living with Wanda, sells arms illegally with her assistance. Wanda transports arms to John at rebel headquarters without Max's knowledge. She is able to escape from the premises without obstacles because she is playing her double game with the government's consent. Wanda calls on Sergel, a baker with whom she feels class kinship and sympathy. In the bakery she re-encounters John and confesses to him that she has been playing a double game. He wants to abandon his political commitments to demonstrate his love for her. Max, in the meantime, has learned about Wanda's deception. John's colleagues are arrested, and when he finds out what has happened to them changes his mind and decided to carry out his political instructions. He leaves Wanda, who is then arrested. John completes his task successfully. The revolutionary forces capture the city. Max becomes desperate and shoots Wanda. John finds her, and she dies in his arms. (texte officiel du distributeur)
