The Moon Represents My Heart

In 2012, Juan Martín Hsu travels to Taiwan to reunite with his mother. He takes a camera and many questions about the murder of his father, also a Taiwanese migrant, in Argentina. He doesn’t find so many answers, but he does find a woman who, when faced with the lens and living with her children for the first time in years, starts opening up and revealing her story, which is also a story of estrangement and the struggle to survive in a sexist world. In 2019, Hsu returns to Taiwan. Evidence of time can be seen everywhere, just like the filmmaker’s growth as the film starts to mutate before our eyes, allowing fiction to come in and establishing links between the history of his family and of a country in constant turmoil.
