In early 2013, Reed was invited to become a member of the American Society of Cinematographers. She is the youngest active member in the ASC and one of only 13 women out of approximately 345 active members in the organization. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Kodak Vision Award for Cinematography at the Women In Film Crystal + Lucy Awards and was part of the Kodak OnFilm Series. In that same year, she was named one of Variety's 10 Cinematographers to Watch. Some of Reed's thoughts on the digital revolution and how it has affected filmmaking are featured in Keanu Reeves' acclaimed documentary Side by Side.
Reed was also featured two years in a row as a Heroine of Cinema in Indiewire. As a DP, Reed's been a regular on the festival circuit, having multiple films in competition for the past consecutive 6 years. Reed's features that have been released theatrically are The Skeleton Twins with Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, And So It Goes with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, and Kill Your Darlings with Daniel Radcliffe, Dane DeHaan and Ben Foster.
Other theatrical releases include War Story, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete, Shut Up and Play the Hits, The Magic of Belle Isle, Little Birds and For Ellen. Reed wrapped up the first season of the original HBO series called Looking. Her earlier work includes Frozen River, which won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and went on to be nominated for two Academy Awards (including Best Actress for Melissa Leo) and seven Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Picture. The drama Meadowland, starring Olivia Wilde, Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi, Elisabeth Moss, Juno Temple and John Leguizamo is Reed's first feature as a director and she also served as the DP on the film. Reed lives in Brooklyn, New York with her husband and two children.
