Gerard Hurley

Gerard Hurley was born in Ireland but left for Switzerland at age 15 to work with horses. In 1987 he settled in the United States, first working in the oil fields of Oklahoma, later traveling around the States taking work in construction, tending bar, and doing other odd jobs. At the beginning of the 1990s he began cooperating on low-budget films in New York where he took an ever greater interest in writing scripts. In 2008 he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in his first feature, The Pride, a film that explores domestic abuse in the “Irish gypsy” community in America. The psychological drama The Pier is his second feature film.
