Biographie

Luis Miñarro (b. 1949, Barcelona) is one of Europe’s most highly regarded producers of independent film. In 2010 he won the Crystal Globe in Karlovy Vary for Best Film for The Mosquito Net (dir. Agustí Vila) while, a month earlier, the film Uncle Boonmee (dir. Apichatpong Weerasethakul), which he coproduced, won the Palme d’Or at Cannes. Miñarro began writing film reviews and shooting commercials in 1980. Fifteen years later he founded the production company Eddie Saeta S. A., which gave rise to films by Albert Serra, Marc Recha, José Luis Guerín, Lisandro Alonso and Manoel de Oliveira. In 2009 KVIFF screened his directorial debut Familystrip in its world premiere. That same year the Locarno festival presented his second feature film as director, Blow Horn. In 2011 he won the prestigious Barcelona City Prize for his commitment to the arts.
