Biographie
Sympathisant de la gauche politique américaine, Edward Dmytryk réalise en 1943 Les Enfants d’Hitler, un violent réquisitoire contre le fascisme. Ses convictions lui valent d’être condamné à six mois de prison. Malgré certains grands succès comme La Neige en deuil, 1956, ou Le Bal des maudits, 1957, il n’obtiendra jamais le pardon d’Hollywood. Une certaine critique le considèrera donc jusqu’à la fin de sa carrière - et injustement - comme un technicien certes talentueux mais simple faire-valoir de brillants interprètes.
