Biographie (1)
Peking, 1952. His father was a movie director and he worked in the fields and did army duty before entering the Peking Film Academy in the late seventies. A regular at all the important festivals, he picked up the first Golden Palm Award for a Chinese film with Farewell My Concubine (1993).
