Biographie

Born in the Canary Islands and raised in Madrid, Carlos Baena connected with the world of cinema very early, making skateboarding videos. In 1994 he moved to the United States to study art and animation. After college, Carlos worked on commercials for Will Vinton Studios (now known as Laika), Click 3X and Wild Brain. He then began in the world of feature films at George Luca’s Industrial Light and Magic where he worked in the franchises of Jurassic Park and Star Wars. Later, he joined Pixar Animation Studios where he has worked, among others, in the Oscar-winning films Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E and Toy Story 3. In 2007, he was nominated for the Annie Award for Best Character of Animation for his work in Cars. He co-founded the online school Animation Mentor and Artella Pipeline, a platform to help directors create animation work. From Anki, a robotics studio in San Francisco, brought together a group of animators, technical directors and programmers to develop the personality and character of the first robot with Artificial Intelligence called ‘Cozmo’. In 2010 and 2015 he returns to the real image shooting with the short films Play by Play, and MarketSt, awarded at festivals around the world.
