Biographie

Luz Eugenia Cortés Rocha was born in Mexico City, with roots in Guanajuato. She studied communication at the Universidad Iberoamericana (UIA), cinematography at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), and a master's degree in film studies at the Cineteca Nacional- Universidad de Guadalajara. Director, screenwriter, and scriptwriter, she was president of Mujeres en el Cine y la Televisión, A.C., and has been part of the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte. Her filmography includes three fiction feature films, a documentary, and several cultural television series (1984-2021). She won the Ariel, the Diosa de Plata, the ACE award in New York, and the Pitirre in Puerto Rico (1989) for El Secreto de Romelia, her film school debut. She also received the José Rovirosa award for the documentary Paco Chávez and in 2002 she participated with his entire filmography in Retrospectiva at the Flying Broom Festival in Ankara, Turkey. She has been a teacher at the CCC, the Centro Universitario de Teatro of the UNAM, the Universidad Iberoamericana, and the Cineteca Nacional, and teaches courses on women in film with Gina Szclar.
