Biographie

He studied art and enlisted in the British Army during World War I. Whale discovered his passion for drama when he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner of war. He is best remembered for his work in the horror film genre, having directed such classics as Frankenstein (1931), The Invisible Man (1933) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). He directed films in other genres, such as the musical Show Boat (1936), but he never surpassed his popularity as a director of horror films.
