Biographie
Donn Alan Pennebaker est un cinéaste, écrivain et peintre américain né en 1925 à Evanston (Illinois). Il compte parmi les pionniers du cinéma direct. Célèbre pour ses documentaires musicaux, Pennebaker fait preuve d'un véritable talent pour filmer les concerts, s'immisçant sur scène avec une caméra sachant retranscrire la fièvre d'un live allié à un sens du rythme indéniable. Il a filmé Bob Dylan (Dont Look Back en 1967), David Bowie, Depeche Mode, Jimi Hendrix (Jimi Hendrix Live en 1989), ou encore John DeLorean (DeLorean en 1981). Ses films sont de véritables témoignages sur l'histoire du rock. Il signe en 1969 Sweet Toronto/Keep On Rockin tourné avec Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, en 1991, Jerry Lee Lewis: The Story of Rock & Roll et en 1992, The Music Tells You.
