Ben Stiller est né dans le show-business : ses parents sont Jerry Stiller et Anne Meara, qui formèrent le très populaire duo comique Stiller & Meara. Ayant étudié les arts du théâtre à l'UCLA, il fait ses premiers pas sur scène à Broadway en 1986 dans la production de « The House of Blue Leaves » de John Guare, face à John Mahoney.
