Who's Afraid of the Wolf ? (2008)

anglais What does a family crisis look like from the perspective of a preschool-age girl? Very interesting. Who's Afraid of the Wolf is on a European level technically, in the acting and the script, and shows that Czech cinema doesn't automatically have to equal the boredom we usually see.

Eden Lake (2008)

anglais A trip to a lake turns into a fight for survival when a loving couple pisses off a bunch of local teenagers. An unoriginal but very impressive and suspenseful film that people with weaker stomachs may not be able to handle, but fans of the British new wave of horror will definitely be very satisfied.

Bangkok Dangerous (2008)

anglais A hitman heads to Thailand for one last job and discovers his humanity in the process. The lacklustre script drags Bangkok Dangerous down a lot, and a lacklustre Nicolas Cage doesn't help the result much either. Fortunately, though, the Pang brothers know their way around a camera and occasionally manage to pull off an interesting-looking scene. Overall, though, the film is a rather bland average that you can easily miss in theaters.

Mirrors (2008)

anglais A mediocre horror film in which Kiefer Sutherland must confront an evil hidden behind mirrors. The absolutely unimaginative script and the overly long running time are a major problem, and although director Alexandre Aja tries his best and serves some very well shot and sometimes very gritty scenes, he can’t push the film to above average.

Course à la mort (2008)

anglais A thoroughbred action B-movie that runs like a well-oiled machine. Paul W.S. Anderson has plenty of ideas and isn't afraid to use them, so get ready for proper violence, rock music and badass wisecracks at their best. So what if it's all incredibly stupid?

affiche

The Strangers (2008)

anglais Two heroes, three psychopaths, one house and a fight for survival. The Strangers may be a hopelessly unoriginal horror film, but who cares when most of the time the atmosphere and tension work perfectly?

Hellboy 2 : Les légions d'or maudites (2008)

anglais Guillermo Del Toro did exactly what was expected of him. The film looks like it cost three times as much as it actually did, and the parade of entertaining action scenes, monsters and original ideas is almost never-ending. Unfortunately, the film loses its pace when it works with emotions. Nevertheless, Hellboy and his crew saving the world from an invincible army is definitely worth a cinema visit, because it's still a damn good film.

La Momie : La tombe de l'empereur Dragon (2008)

anglais Jet Li has risen from the dead and decided to take over the world. Fortunately, Rick O'Connell and his family are here to stop him. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is hampered by poorly shot action sequences, and while there is always something going on screen, you rarely come across a genuinely entertaining moment in the barrage of mediocre visual effects and toe-curling dialogue. This wannabe adventure film that masquerades as ideal family entertainment is actually a prime example of wasted potential.

Mutant Chronicles (2008)

anglais Mutant Chronicles is a B-grade action sci-fi flick that offers an absolutely stupid and woefully unoriginal story, but thanks to the likeable cast, the decent direction and a distinctive atmosphere it passes by very quickly.
