What to Do in Case of Fire (2001)

anglais When this movie came to existence, every single professional, semi-professional and non-professional (aka uneducated) person alike claimed that German cinematography sucked. But they didn’t get to see a movie like this one, for example. An interesting idea, a return to Germany’s recent past has intrigued me, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that it all could have been even more interesting. By the way, Til Schweiger has always been quite the devil.

Low Cost (2011)

anglais A great French comedy that’s brutally absurd. And that’s what’s so great about it. I couldn’t handle not seeing every single scene that happened in that low-cost flight. I haven’t seen a movie this absurd for a really long time…

Peace, Love et plus si affinités (2012)

anglais I mostly decided to watch the movie because of Jennifer Aniston. Sure, also because of Alan Alda. I thought that even if the comedy has such a low rating on this site, those actors can’t be disappointing. And I ignored this rating completely because I was excited to watch a nice comedy. But this was the second time that lead actors disappointed me in one day. First it was Adam Sandler in Jack and Jill and now Jennifer Aniston in Wanderlust. It’s not actually that bad, but some of the scenes were more sickening than they were laughable. For example, the “natural” birth. In any case, Jennifer put her all into the movie. She even showed more than just her legs, even if it was hidden behind a shield of pixels.

Jack et Julie (2011)

anglais I really like Adam Sandler, but honestly, this movie seemed crazy since the very beginning. Adam Sandler’s got it all covered. Either he shoots a nice comedy or an insane comedy and, to shut the critics every now and then, he puts in some perfect dramatic character. Jack and Jill is one of the insane comedies, for sure, but unfortunately, it didn’t make me happy at all. In any case, it made Adam money and that’s the main thing. Adam proves that he can film anything he wants and each and every time, it’s a decent moneymaker. But this movie pissed me off. Jack was okay, but Jill could use a punch in the face. In any case, I must admit that I had a couple of good laughs, but Jill is a thorn in this movie that really ticked me off.

Opération Condor (1991)

anglais Armour of God 2 is a movie full of memories from my childhood. Back then, it showed me Jackie Chan as a champ that no one could ever beat. The scenes he did in this movie are the ones I’ll be applauding for the rest of my life. He’s an incredible hotshot and I doubt that anyone will ever compare to him. Even the famous Jet Li pales in comparison with his action moves. It’s just a shame that this movie became so repetitive; I actually have to ignore the idiotic story or the even more idiotic dialogues the likes of a Charlie Chaplin movie. Each and every time, I simply wait for the action which will never cease to amaze me in this over-digitalized era. Hats off!

Terriblement heureux (2008)

anglais It’s been a while since I’ve seen a Scandinavian movie. That’s why I didn’t hesitate and recalled a piece that has been eluding me for a while now. And after watching it, I must say that Terribly Happy is an absolutely precise Scandinavia in all regards. At the beginning, the movie’s pointless, it’s like watching a David Lynch movie. The atmosphere is incredibly pervasive and each detailed shot of nature highlights it beautifully. Later, it shifts into a typical Scandinavian drama with a brutal share of irony and coincidences that simply have to be there. And so, I was really satisfied. It wasn’t worth the full five stars, but as far as Scandinavian movies go, I enjoyed it perfectly.

Tequila Sunrise (1988)

anglais An incredibly pleasant Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell. A typical 1980s plot and a third, female role – Michelle Pfeiffer. What more could I want? This was an incredibly relaxed and chill movie that I’ll be happy to re-watch, even many times over.

Anonyma - Une femme à Berlin (2008)

anglais The WWII seems like a bottomless well of stories. On one hand, that’s not really surprising. A Woman in Berlin might be a very interesting, original story that tells one of the tales that, for a change, took place in Berlin right before the war ended. I absolutely understand why the movie was filmed. I mean, I never really thought about what happened when the Russian army stormed Berlin. In my eyes, the war simply ended and that was that. But when I thought about it, it couldn’t have been as rosy as it’s written in books and that’s exactly why one anonymous German woman wrote a diary that this amazing movie was based on. It’s just a shame it’s so slow-paced. Because at times, it can be awfully boring, which is a common problem with war dramas. On the other hand, it really tried to show the life of the two opposing sides absolutely objectively. The objectivity is fundamental for a movie like this; without it, the telling value is basically zero. Americans but also Russians have something to say about that… We’re all people and we’re all just acting on our instincts and since that’s the truth, then nobody’s good or bad. We’re all just people with good and bad sides. I’m glad I saw a movie like this. The fair-mindedness is the movie’s main currency and it takes the story of this single woman – but also a thousand other women from Berlin – to new heights.

That's Life (2007)

anglais :-D How do I even rate this? Well, I had fun. :-D The punchline was amazing.

La Grande Arnaque (2004)

anglais Imagine you go to a pub and get some wings. You know what to expect, it’s the cheapest food on the menu, you know you like it and you get your bellyful. Wings are an ideal simile for this movie. You go see this movie, knowing there are good actors, you turn it on and you slowly find out it’s nothing that special. You watch it, but you won’t remember it the next day… much like those pub wings.
