Frankenstein (1994)

anglais This is a great film. A classic novel filmed in such a way that it has the parameters of a Shakespearean tragedy. Just as Mrs. Shelley intended. De Niro is amazing - the way he evokes disgust and compassion at the same time is unique, Branagh is great in front of and behind the camera, the demonic music by Patrick Doyle is his best piece and in terms of energy it beats Elfman. Oh, and there's John Cleese in his best serious role. What more do you want?

Mission (1986)

anglais A film with a lot of superlatives: Jeremy Irons's best film, one of De Niro's best roles, Morricone's most beautiful music. Brilliant film.

1941 (1979)

anglais I like 1941 more and more with each viewing. I especially appreciate the extremely playful whirlwind of humor that is thrown at the viewer from the beginning to the end. Some people can take it, some people can't. Every character in this film is - with apologies - a complete asshole, the script doesn't leave anything out and it's clear that Zemeckis and Gale could have come up with absolutely anything, because Steven Spielberg had a really generous budget (not to mention his own imagination) and had no problem fleshing out even the craziest things. Of the cast, I'm most reliably entertained by the Japanese submarine captain Toshiro Mifune and his German observer Christopher Lee, and if I had to pick a best scene, it would probably be the dance scene that escalates into a brawl of unbelievable proportions. I don't even need to mention the top-notch music of John Williams.___P.S. I would probably give the extended version one or two stars, because the film really drags unnecessarily and the momentum is lost.

Le Labyrinthe de Pan (2006)

anglais A fantastic journey to the depths of a small child’s soul. A film without flaws, the more you watch it, the more you realise how perfect it is.

L'Impasse (1993)

anglais Absolutely the best gangster film I've ever seen (and I've thoroughly enjoyed both Coppola and Scorsese). A film in which there is not a single extra scene, not a single shot is self-serving and everything fits together. Sean Penn's transformation is fascinating, but of course it's Al Pacino who gets all the attention. I maintain that Carlito Brigante is his best role. Tony Montana in Scarface was an asshole - and yet everyone was rooting for him. So with Carlito, who just got out of prison and wants nothing to do with the past, it must be the same. Unfortunately for this Puerto Rican, nothing is going nearly as well as he would like. Brian de Palma is in top form here, the final fifteen minutes at the "station" is unparalleled in the film world, and a thumbs up is also in order for Patrick Doyle's score. All I have to do is listen it on its own and my eyes get weirdly moist...

Les Simpson (1989) (série)

anglais Yellow madness, who wouldn't be affected? The Simpsons is the cult classic of all cult classics. True, they’ve run out of steam in the last few seasons and start ripping themselves off a bit, but it's still unbeatable fun. The best fun "something" made in the USA.

Stargate, la porte des étoiles (1994)

anglais One of my favourite sci-fi movies with an unmistakable desert atmosphere, good actors and great music by David Arnold. The best Emmerich. PS: The series can go pound sand.

Commando à Prague (1964)

anglais Unbeatable stuff. For me personally, it is absolutely realistically filmed, from the beginning, from Beethoven, to the end in the church and the crypt below... Čurda's call: "Boys, come out, you won't get hurt. Nothing happened to me either!" was in my head for a long time. In short, this amongst the best Czech war films, and it can boldly compete with its foreign competitors. Vávra can’t compete with Sequens - nobody can make this sort of atmosphere anymore.

300 (2006)

anglais If the film hadn't added one quite unnecessary plot line compared to the book (yes, the one with Leonid's wife and scheming senators) and just stuck to flashbacks, it would have had even more momentum and 300 would have become an uncompromising digital blood-ride during which you’d be holding your breath. It’s a bit of a shame. Still, the result is an excellent show about a tough fight for the right cause.

Hellboy (2004)

anglais "I'm fireproof. Not you." I understand that a person who hasn't had the pleasure of reading Hellboy on paper might not appreciate the movie as much. But trust me, it's perfect (although many, many things are changed and many, many things are left out)! As far as Ron Perlman is concerned - that's what you call the role of a lifetime.__P.S. The extended version contains rather cosmetic changes and improvements, but the scene with Rasputin's eyes is excellent.
